Scott vows ‘aggressive oversight’ by House education committee

The House Education and Labor Committee will conduct “aggressive oversight” of the Trump administration, the panel’s new chairman, Rep Bobby Scott, said today.

Scott (D-Va.) said at the committee’s first meeting of this Congress that oversight of the executive branch would be a priority.

Scott said the committee would be focused on ways to “improve the quality and lower the cost of our education system — from early childhood education to college and career.”

In addition, Scott said he was committed to working across party lines.

“In an era of divided government, we must recognize that real legislative and oversight accomplishments will require us to work together,” he said.
